How to protect your own forest? Ilkka Hanski Nature Network plots are being protected from four perspectives according to the will of Ilkka Hanski.

 

• Animals have a place where to breed and rest without outside pressure

• The protected areas bring joy and benefit to the locals

• The protected areas will stay within local ownership

• Nature, which is rich in biodiversity, will remain for future generations

 

Hence, plots belonging to Ilkka Hanski Nature Network are protected via the Ministry of the Environment of Finland as part of the METSO Programme.

 

In Finland, you can also protect your own nature area by donating it to Luonnonperintösäätiö or to the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation. You can also donate money to these organisations for conservation work, or through the Helsinki Foundation.
