haminanluoto

Haminanluoto is an islet (2 ha) just off Hanski village. The species of bird recorded on the island has remained somewhat similar since 1960s; however, the abundance of each species has fluctuated greatly. Ilkka Hanski described the islet in his book Messages from Islands (2016). In recent years Tatu Hokkanen has taken recordings of the birds of Haminanluoto. Haminanluoto is an important plot not only in terms of conservation but also culturally: it once belonged to the Harjula family, who subsequently gave the islet to the father of Ilkka Hanski.
